Who can enroll their stallion?
Any stallion standing in Ontario is eligible to enroll.
What are the fees?
$750 the first year of enrollment, then $500 annually.
Where does the money go?
$100 from newly enrolled stallions will be allocated to a banner for their horse. These are hung at every OBFA show.
The rest of the money will go into a side pot for Ontario born and bred futurity horses participating in the OBFA. The side pot will be paid out at the culmination of the season.
Number of spots paid, will depend upon the number of stallions enrolled. Guaranteed payout to minimum of one horse in the 1D and 2D.
How does the payout work?
Payout will be based on a 70/30 split. 70% being paid to the 1D, 30% being paid to the 2D.
The number of spots paid out, will be determined by the number of horses sired by participating stallions is final.
25% of the money awarded will go to the stallion owner. 75% will go toward the futurity horse owner.
If Jane Smith wins $1000 in the stallion side pot on her colt sired by VF Gunpowder, Sharon Cleaves would win $250 and Jane would win $750.
How many times can I place in the side pot?
New for 2025, offspring are only allowed to place in one division. Whichever is a higher value placing, will be paid out.
What if there is a tie?
NBHA Canada rules will be in effect. The points director will break the tie, based on whichever horse has more 9s and 10s.
Can my enrolled stallion, place in the side pot?
No, a stallion is unable to be an offspring of himself.
What if my stallion passes away?
If you choose to continue to pay your stallion in, until their offspring age out of the futurity, then offspring will continue to be eligible.
